From play-in game to quarterfinals for Highland

Highland, which topped Woods Cross in the Region 6 play-in game just to qualify for the postseason, stunned Region 8 champion seed Timpview 74-64 in the opening round of the 4A state tournament Monday night at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.

Henry Morris poured in a game-high 24 points with three 3-pointers, while Brandon Warr chipped in 18 more and eight rebounds to power the Rams in the shocking, upset victory.

Highland ended the first half on a dominating 18-3 tear and shot an impressive 57 percent from the field en route to a commanding, double-digit lead at halftime.

The T-Birds finally got their offense rolling in the second half and went on a 12-0 run at the end of the third quarter to trim the lead to just 10 points and get back in the game.

However, after a couple of quick timeouts by Highland  coach Keith West, the Rams regrouped and kept Timpview relatively quiet the rest of the way to pick up its third consecutive win.

The T-Birds really played well in the second half, but the 19-point halftime deficit was just too much to come back from as Highland never looked back to advance to the quarterfinals of the 4A Playoffs.

With the win, the No. 4 seed Rams will next take on No. 3-seed Olympus Tuesday afternoon at 4:10 p.m. at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
