Bingham hires Charron Mason as girls basketball coach

SOUTH JORDAN — Bingham High announced Charron Mason as the replacement for longtime coach Rand Rasmussen for the Miners girls program Thursday.

Mason was slated to become the first head coach at Corner Canyon, but the unexpected announcement of Rasmussen’s retirement prompted her application to stay with her alma mater. She was the top choice of 28 applicants for the position.

“When it came to her, that Rand really was going to hang it up, she (was) torn to pieces,” Bingham athletic director Brad Bevan said. “She’s been being groomed for that job for several years. It was tough for her (to leave Corner Canyon).”

Mason was a three-sport athlete at Bingham began coaching while she was still in college at Southern Utah with the Miners.

“She’s one of the best young educators I’ve ever been around,” Bevan said. “She’s an outstanding teacher. She’s going to do wonderful.”
