Ott trying to follow in idol’s footsteps

Pine View’s Louis Garrett

Like many basketball fans in Southern Utah, Tyler Ott was at the Burns Arena five years ago when Pine View took down Dixie 45-38.

He was just a seventh grader, but his other brother was a freshman on that Pine View team and he idolized all of the older guys.

“I looked up to those guys so much, Louis Garrett, all of those guys,” said Ott.

Being among the 5,000 estimated fans that Saturday afternoon was one of the most fun moments of his life, but now he’s making new memories.

Friday night he scored 20 points in Desert Hills’ semifinal victory over Dixie amidst an environment that was eerily similar in its intensity to the scene back in 2007.

Today he’ll try and experience what Garrett and his heroes got to experience in the 3A state championship game against Hurricane at 1:30 p.m.

“To actually be a part of if now is just such an unbelievable feeling,” said Ott.
