Alta’s Michele Murphy named Gatorade player of year

Alta soccer star Michele Murphy, who was named the 2011 Deseret News Ms. Soccer recipient last fall, was recently named Utah’s Gatorade Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

Murphy scored 37 goals during her senior season, and has signed a letter of intent to play at BYU.

The Gatorade Player of the Year award is awarded based on accomplishments on the field as academic achievements off the field. Murphy maintains a 3.84 GPA.

Gatorade presents an award in 12 different sports each year.

Recent Gatorade winners of Utah were Brighton’s Stephanie Verdoia (2011), Bonneville’s Jaiden Thornock (2010), Kealia Ohai (2008 & 2009) and Megan Ohai (2007).
