Wednesday night boys hoops observations

Home court advantage was on full display in American Fork’s 54-46 victory over Bountiful Wednesday evening. The Cavemen knocked down nine 3-pointers and had three players score in double figures. The Braves, meanwhile, couldn’t get much going offensively, particularly in the second half when turnovers became a big problem.
Both teams were undefeated heading into the game, and both have grand aspirations of big things this season in their respective classifications. Both play in tough regions, however, so more tight games are sure to come.
Here are some other observations from Wednesday night’s slate of boys basketball games:
Lone Peak coach Quincy Lewis was in the stands at Riverton Tuesday scouting out Viewmont, his team’s opponent on Wednesday. Riverton largely overwhelmed Viewmont on that night for the nine-point win. Lewis is probably wondering how Riverton did it. Viewmont outscored Lone Peak 53-35 over the final three quarters Wednesday night to shock Lone Peak 64-53.
New Judge coach Dan Del Porto picked up his first-ever coaching victory Wednesday night as Michael Olive buried a 3-pointer at the buzzer in 48-47 victory over Hillcrest.
Jordan Loveridge scored 21 points, and was one of four West Jordan players to score in double figures in a 69-59 road victory at Syracuse.
North Sevier improved to 5-0 in impressive fashion Wednesday night. Despite falling behind North Sanpete 18-4 in the first quarter, the Wolves battled back and won 76-71 in overtime. Colton Piep led the way for North Sevier with 22 points. Colton Dunn scored 26 points in the loss for the Hawks.
Wow. Hunter is probably still in a state of shock after being outscored by Logan 30-4 in the first quarter. I can’t recall a more dominant first quarter — other than perhaps Bingham’s 49-0 first quarter against Copper Hills in football this year. Logan went on to win the game 69-49.
