4A, 5A baseball changes
The rainouts in the 4A state baseball tournament have impacted the remaining 4A and 5A schedule. Here’s a look at the current plan, barring any more washouts.
Wednesday:
The 5A schedule remains the same. There are two elimination games at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. and the winners play at 7 p.m.
The 4A schedule picks up from today. Bonneville and Salem Hills will complete their suspended game, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Springville-Timpanogos is at 4:30 p.m. and Spanish Fork-Snow Canyon is at 7 p.m.
Thursday:
There will be five games, all at UVU, and the first game will start earlier than originally scheduled.
The 5A winners’ bracket final is at 9 a.m. The loser of that game faces the team that survives the one-loss bracket at 11 a.m. There’s no way that game starts at 11, but that’s what’s scheduled.
For 4A, there will be two one-loss bracket games at 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. and the winners of those two games play at 7 p.m.
Friday:
The 5A championship will be played as scheduled at 11 a.m. If there is an “if” game, it will be played shortly thereafter. If a team wins the championship without a loss, there will be no game played in the 1:30 p.m. window.
For 4A, the winners’ bracket final will be played at 4:30 p.m. The loser of that game plays the team that comes out of the one-loss bracket at 7 p.m.
The 4A championship game will now be played at UVU on Saturday at 11 a.m. with a possible if game to be played shortly thereafter.
This new plan is weather permitting. Judging from how the spring has gone, it’s probably best to not set it in stone.
The only drawback to the schedule is that there’s no Super Friday this year where both the 4A and 5A championships will be played on the same day. But no one could control that. It is what it is.
