Jaiden Thornock earns Player of the Year honors
Bonneville standout Jaiden Thornock has been named the 2009-10 Gatorade Utah Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
Thornock, a junior forward, scored 26 goals and dished out 10 assists in leading the Lakers to the 4A championship game this past season. She scored at least one goal in all of Bonneville’s games in ’09 and has now tallied 54 career goals in three seasons.
Thornock was voted as a Deseret News 4A First team selection in 2009 and was selected as the Deseret News 4A MVP in 2008.
This award recognizes a combination athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character. Thornock has done much to meet all of the criteria. In addition to her soccer-related accomplishments, she carries a 3.98 GPA, is active in her church community, and volunteers in her community at an assisted living facility and as a local youth soccer instructor.
Thornock joins Kealia Ohai (2007-08, 2008-09) and Megan Ohai (2006-07) as recent recipients of Gatorade Player of the Year honors. She is now eligible for the Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year award, which will be announced in May.
Thornock will be back to lead Bonneville again in the fall before moving on to play soccer at BYU. She has verbally committed to play for the Cougars beginning in the fall of 2011.
