Girls soccer: Some national academic recognition
Three Utah high school girls soccer teams recently earned team academic awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for 2009. The awards recognized teams who posted strong cumulative grade point averages among their team members.
Highland earned a team award with a team GPA of 3.75. Juan Diego was also honored after posting a 3.52 team GPA. Wasatch led the way among instate teams with a team GPA of 3.77.
The marks posted by the Wasps and the Rams were enough to put both teams in top 10 percent nationally among the 261 teams who received the award.
Highland also had a player earn individual recognition for academic excellence from the NSCAA. Kacee Patrick was named to the 2009 NCSAA/adidas Girls High School Scholar All-America Team with a 3.80 GPA. Patrick, a second team Deseret News all-state selection last fall, was one of only nine defenders nationally to be named to the team.
Patrick will receive her award when the selections are recognized at the 2010 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia on January 16th.
