Tuesday night boys hoops observations

Here are some quick observations from Tuesday night’s slate of boys basketball games:

How about those Titans. Olympus took full advantage of the cozy confines of its tiny gym to upset Bingham, the state’s No. 1 team, 68-63. Nick Paulos led the way with 22 points, and its pretty obvious his bout with pneumonia is a thing of the past.

Not much is expected of West this year in 5A, but Tyrell Corbin is definitely hold up his end of the bargain for the 4-2 Panthers. He scored 27 points in a 70-59 win over Salem Hills.

Region 1, the state’s largest region with nine teams, got underway on Tuesday and most of the results went as expected. The only real surprise was Syracuse’s overtime victory over Viewmont.

American Fork continues to impress. Remember, this is a team that started last season by losing its first 14 games, but this year the Cavemen are 5-0 thanks to a 60-57 win over a quality Timpview team Tuesday night.

Tuesday’s No. 1 vs. No. 2 showdown in 2A turned out to be pretty one sided as South Sevier pulled away for a 66-48 victory by outscoring Waterford 18-8 in the fourth quarter.

What are some of your thoughts on tonight’s games across the state?
