Kealia Ohai earns National Player of the Year honors
Kealia Ohai recently earned some national recognition for her accomplishments on the soccer field.
Ohai, who just wrapped her senior season at Alta High, was named to the 2009 NSCAA/adidas Girls High School All-America team. She was one of 11 players nationwide who earned a repeat All-American selection. In addition, Ohai was selected as the National player of the year by the NSCAA.
Ohai and the rest of the All-America selections will be honored at the annual All-America Luncheon, held in Philadelphia, Pa., on Jan. 16, as part of the 2010 NSCAA Convention.
It is a fitting honor for the star forward, who – in my opinion – is the most talented girls soccer player to ever come out of the state of Utah.
During her four year career with the Hawks, Ohai scored 126 goals while leading her team to four straight 5A championships. She earned 5A MVP honors in 2007 and was named Ms. Soccer in 2008 and again this fall.
Ohai will continue her soccer career at North Carolina. She committed to play college ball for the defending national champs between her junior and senior year at Alta. The Tar Heels won their second consecutive NCAA title – and 21st overall – with a 1-0 victory over top-ranked Stanford this past weekend.
