A major baseball announcement
I’m pleased and proud to announce that the Marshall Gates Foundation/Deseret News all-star baseball game will take place for the second time. The game will be played on May 26 at Kearns High’s Gates Field.
Once again we’re looking to invite the state’s top 30 players, and as we learned last year narrowing down the state’s deserving and talented players to just 30 is a difficult process. We ended up inviting 34 last year, but we really will try and keep it to 30 this time.
The festivities will begin with batting practice at 4 p.m., and then a home run derby will be held at 6 p.m. The actual game will start at 7 p.m.
Last year’s event went extremely well, and the person to be thanked for that is Chad Shepherd from the Gates Foundation. He put together a fun night, and after having lunch with him today, it sounds like this second game will be even better.
Just like last year, I’ll look at some all-star candidates in the days and weeks leading up to the game here on this blog. I’ll also provide some updates on the game.
So mark it in your calendars: May 26. All the proceeds from the game will go directly to the Gates Foundation, and you can come and enjoy watching the state’s best baseball players on the same field.
