Girls soccer: Utah State announces 2009 class
Utah State announced in a press release on Monday that it has signed eight players for the 2009 season. Among those eight are five local products.
These local players are:
Jamee Dyches (Viewmont HS)
Kami Montgomery (Lone Peak HS)
Ashlyn Mulford (Cyprus HS)
Natalie Norris (Alta HS)
Lindsay Obray (Clearfield HS)
All but Dyches play defensive positions on the pitch. She plays midfield and forward.
Norris made a name for herself this past season as the anchor of an Alta defense that did not give up a single goal after suffering a regular season loss to Brighton. Norris helped lead the Hawks to a third consecutive 5A title and was named 5A MVP by the Deseret News at season’s end.
Montgomery was a defensive anchor as well for a very solid Lone Peak squad. She helped the Knights rally to force a three-way tie for the Region 4 title this season and earned first-team all-state honors.
Dyches was Viewmont’s leading scorer as a senior with eight goals and helped the Vikings reach the 5A quarterfinals. She earned all-state honorable mention honors.
I don’t know much about Mulford or Obray. They were both stuck on teams mired at the bottom of the standings in their respective regions. But both players did more than enough at the club level to draw interest from the Aggies.
It looks like a solid class for Utah State. Norris and Montgomery, especially, should be the anchors of that defense within a year or two.
I’ll keep you posted on the other local teams as I find out about their signing classes.
