Girls soccer: BYU signs 2009 recruits
For you girls soccer fans out there, I thought I would pass along some recruiting news that came my way a little while ago.
BYU announced who it has signed in its 2009 class in a press release earlier today. Among the eight players who will don a Cougar uniform in the fall are six local products:
Here is the full list of local players who signed with BYU:
Cami Jensen (Logan, UT)
Ashley Jones (Draper, UT)
Lindsi Lisonbee (Park City, UT)
Erica Owens (Salt Lake City, UT)
Jessica Ringwood (Cottonwood Heights, UT)
Amber Wadsworth (Provo, UT)
It is a talented bunch to say the least. Jessica Ringwood, Cami Jensen, Ashley Jones and Amber Wadsworth are all explosive scorers. Jensen was the no. 2 scorer in 3A this year at Logan. Wadsworth led 4A in scoring as a senior at Provo. Both Ringwod and Jones ranked in the top ten in 5A and were go-to players at Brighton and Alta respectively.
Lindsi Lisonbee was a defensive standout and a fine ball distributor at Park City and was recognized as a Parade All-American coming into her senior season. And Erica Owens distinguished herself one of the top goalkeepers in the state at Highland — earning 10 shutouts in 2008.
All six players were selected to the Deseret News all-state first team this past season.
BYU coach Jennifer Rockwood feels like this class will enhance the two-time Mountain West Champions by adding depth and athleticism across the board.
“Our 2009 class is very well balanced from the defensive end through the attack, and will help to increase our overall team speed, strength, and experience,” Rockwood said in a statement. “We are anxious for them to arrive on campus.”
I will keep you posted as other local colleges announce who they have signed for next fall.
