New playoff picks
Sorry for the late post today. We’ve been celebrating in the streets of Rose Park since I went 8-0 last week and I’m still recovering. Not really, just running late this week.
Today I’m taking on a guy named Chris Christensen. You may have seen his byline in some other newspaper somewhere in the western United States. He’s also a teacher and has ties up north. That will explain some of his picks.
CC: I really wanted this matchup since I have felt bad for Andrew the past few weeks. I have officially been called the (censored) and that streak might continue with some of my homer picks this week. Mostly I want the (the locals) to win so I have a good excuse to phone in sick to work next week.
AA: Yep, I let him pick which games we’re going to compete in today. They have quite the northern flavor. I’ll add in some picks for other games after I’m done with C.C. I’m hoping the Friday Night Rider can give me some better competition.
Syracuse vs. Pleasant Grove
CC: I think I have to make this pick solely based on the fact that I might never be able to show my face again in public or at work. Both teams have a solid defense, but the Titans improbable run continues. Syracuse 17, Pleasant Grove 14.
AA: I’m taking the Titans. The Vikings are banged up in key spots. That’s not the only reason why I see Syracuse winning, because I believe this team is the real deal. Syracuse 13, Pleasant Grove 10
‘
Layton vs. Skyline
CC: The Eagles are looking for payback after the severe beating they took from the Lancers last year. Too bad. Layton is looking to improve on their abysmal performance last week. Batchelor’s boys do it again. Layton 31, Skyline 21.
AA: This is a game I will look foolish if I miss because I’ve seen both teams in person. This will be close, and Layton does not lose low-scoring slugfests. Layton 17, Skyline 14
Mountain Crest vs. Dixie
CC: The shootout in Hyrum makes me want to hurl. Dixie brings a good team in, but the Mustangs have too much offense and a very offensive crowd. The environment is too much for the Flyers, who are catching an early bus ride home. Mountain Crest 42, Dixie 14.
AA: We’re really picking this game? Mustangs cruise. Mountain Crest 35, Dixie 21
Bonneville at Cottonwood
CC: I really have no reason for doing this, but after what happened to my brother at their hands a few years ago, the Colts have always been on my list of ‘schools that should lose every game.’ Bonneville 28, Cottonwood 27.
AA: Is it Christmas already? Thanks for the gift. Cottonwood 35, Bonneville 14
Delta at Morgan
CC: Morgan is too strong and way too good for the Rabbits. Trojans in a yawner. Morgan 42, Delta 6.
AA: Wow, words really can’t describe what I think of that analysis. Delta 21, Morgan 14
North Summit vs. Juab
CC: I really like what North Summit has done this year. Juab goes down. North Summit 34, Juab 13.
AA: Juab won the first meeting, and pulls it out again. Juab 14, North Summit 13
Kanab vs. Parowan
CC: Big ups to Parowan for coming to Layton and beating the Eagles. Your journey ends when you get on the bus for this trip. Kanab 31, Parowan 0.
AA: That was an impressive victory by the Rams last week. I’m guessing C.C. has never seen Parowan compete in athletics because the Rams always bring it. This won’t be a blowout, but Kanab still wins. Kanab 21, Parowan 14
CC: There you go. I love you like a fat kid loves cake and at the rate I’m growing, it looks more and more like Ice Cream is also on the menu.
I really don’t have a response to that last comment. I got my swagger back (yes swagger is involved in picking games correctly) so I’ll pick the rest just for fun.
5A: I think Davis hangs with Alta for two or three quarters but the Hawks eventually pull away. I like Bingham to beat Jordan by two touchdowns. One other thing. Some readers are apparently upset that I wrote there were no upsets in the first round last week. Well, two road teams did win, but one won by 14 points and the other won by 28. So I wouldn’t call them upsets.
4A: I’ll take Timpview over Sky View, and I’ll take Pine View to edge Highland.
3A: These games are tough to call. I’ll go with Logan over Juan Diego because I took the Grizzlies to win it all in the preseason. I’ll also take Hurricane over Judge by at least two touchdowns and Park City over Cedar by 3.
2A: I like Manti to end San Juan’s unbeaten season in what should be a great game.
1A: Great season for North Sevier, but I think Rich wins by 7.
