Five on the rise

There were quite a few big performances in high school football last week. These five players deserve a mention:

Bradley Holmes, Rich: He’s an MVP candidate in 1A and he almost led the No. 2 Rebels to a win over No. 1 Kanab. He rushed 30 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns. He also completed 12 of 21 passes for 146 yards.

Damian Maestas, West Jordan: He was a workhorse in West Jordan’s overtime win over Hillcrest. He rushed 25 times for 149 yards and a touchdown. For the season, he has rushed for 564 yards on 115 carries.

Anthony Heimuli, Mountain View: We don’t have an accurate number on the yards Heimuli has rushed for this season because the Bruins are having trouble with their stats program. His past opponents can tell you this: the amount is a lot. Heimuli torched Tooele on Friday night, rushing for 162 yards on Friday night.

Colton Ramon, Springville: Now that the Red Devils have straightened out their statistical issues, we’re well aware of the season Ramon is having. He has rushed for 363 yards and has caught nine passes for 124 receiving yards. He has six rushing touchdowns and one receiving score.

Kohler Black, San Juan: He’s been a model of consistency for the Broncos this season. He rushed for 128 yards on 19 carries in San Juan’s 14-0 win over Richfield on Friday night. He has carried the ball 75 times for 631 yards this season. ‘
