Eight is enough for GR
Here’s an interesting story from the 1A baseball ranks.
Last week, Green River won the second game of a doubleheader with Wasatch Academy after overcoming an eight-run deficit. The Pirates scored nine runs in the final inning of the game to win, 13-12.
The rally is hardly the most interesting thing about the game. Green River had to play almost the entire second game with just eight guys after one of its players suffered an injury in the first inning. The Pirates have nine players on their team and didn’t have a sub for the injured player.
Yep, eight players were enough for Green River
Jason Johnson had the game-winning hit ‘ a triple in the top of the fifth inning. Brennan Bigelow scored the game-winning run, and that contribution was just a portion of what he did in the doubleheader. He was also the game-winning pitcher in both games, and he went 5-for-8 at the plate with two doubles, five RBIs, two walks and four runs scored.
‘The kids really showed a lot of heart and never-quit attitude,’ said Green River coach Greg Parsons.
