Another realignment option

Barring a surprise, the alignment for 2009-13 will be finalized later today. The one thing that may hold up a final decision is the continuing rise of gas prices that schools and districts are dealing with.

The Board of Trustees will look at what it can do to help keep costs down.

Hey, remember the M.W. plan?

It was suggested a couple of months ago by my old friend, former West High baseball coach and athletic director, Marce Wilson, and written about in this space. His idea was to set regions according to geography. And when it came time for state tournaments, schools would compete in them according to their school size.

The idea seemed like a reasonable one to stat-man extraordinaire Chris Healey, who does stats for Bountiful High, the Jazz, and various others. He looked at a map, and divided the state’s schools into regions according to where they are. Check it out, and let us know what you think about it. The best part of it may be some of the names he came up with for the various regions.

The numbers in parentheses are projected enrollment totals. We’ll call this the M.W./C.H. plan:
