Baseball tidbits

The next three weeks are the best time of the year for high school baseball fans. The 2A playoffs get underway today, and I am not sure how the schedulers knew how to do it, but in 5A alone, three of the four regions have series that will determine the champion in the last week.
Region 1 has Northridge and Viewmont playing twice and both are tied at 11-1. Region 3 has two bitter rivals in Riverton and Bingham facing off in a three-game series. Riverton is 12-0 and Bingham 11-1. Region 4 has Spanish Fork and Timpanogos going at it, and if things go according to form and the two teams split, Lone Peak can win the league title outright.
The 4A regions are still undecided as well. Sky View and Box Elder are down to the last week battling it out for Region 5. Cottonwood and Murray play in the last Region 6 game of the year for the title, and Region 7 is still up for grabs with Mountain View, Orem and Springville.
I personally will see around 30-35 games over the next 21 days, and anyone with plenty of spare time (and probably a little bit of an obsessive compulsive impulse) could see that many as well. Who is going to win not only their respective regions, but a state title? Let’s hope for no rain outs and enjoy these last few weeks of the season. I know I will.
