A couple of notes:
If you look at the 3A pairings closely, you may notice that Ogden and Ben Lomond have been flip-flopped. No, that isn’t a typo. Region 11 announced this afternoon that Ogden must forfeit three of its wins from the first half of the season because it played an ineligible player. I spoke with Ogden coach Sterling Castle about it this evening and will have a much more exhaustive post about what happened later this evening (or probably early morning). Long story short, Castle found out that one of his players may have been ineligible about a month ago, and decided to turn his program in. A big hearing was held this afternoon at which time Region 11 ruled that Ogden must forfeit the three wins it earned in the five games that the ineligible athlete played in before sustaining a season-ending neck injury.
Per the 2A pairings, Mount Vernon and West Ridge finished in a tie for first place in Region 17 this afternoon. The two teams split head-to-head, but according to Mount Vernon, Region 17 uses a secondary tie-breaker before going to a coin toss. That secondary tie-breaker is head-to-head versus the teams below them. Mount Vernon and West Ridge split head-to-head with third-place ICS but Mount Vernon swept fourth-place Wendover and West Ridge split. Accordingly, Mount Vernon would get the No. 1 seed and West Ridge No. 2. It took me about 15 phone calls to track this information down. First-year West Ridge coach Chad Yost just told me he wants to talk with his A.D. in the morning about the situation, but I’d be very surprised if something changes.
