Region 7 baseball midseason report

We’re at the halfway point in Region 7 baseball and it’s a good time to analyze which teams are still in the hunt for the league title and which are in the chase for one of four playoff spots.
Mountain View, even though it hasn’t had pitcher Cameron Schmidt at full strength, has managed to piece together an undefeated first half. The key win turned out to be the narrow 2-1 victory over Orem. Currently, the Bruins sit a game ahead of Orem and two in front of Springville.
So how will this battle play out in the second half? I think Mountain View will lose at least one game. But, I don’t think the Bruins will lose more than two games. Therefore, that means Orem must have no worse than a 5-1 second half and that Springville can’t lose again if either wants to win the region championship. Obviously the key games will be when all three teams meet for the rematches.
The team that could spoil all of this is Provo. I still think the Bulldogs have underachieved, but are the fourth-best team in this league. By having their best pitcher finally back on the squad, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bulldogs win a game or two in the second half against the top three. I also think Provo will emerge as the fourth playoff qualifier from this region.
