Not enough Region 4 baseball

I am one of many who think that Region 4 is the toughest baseball region in the state. However, I don’t like the fact that we don’t get to see enough of those teams playing each other.
Region 4 begins league play on Tuesday. It’s the last region in the state to get going. Of the 22 games that each of Region 4′s six teams will play, only 10 of them will count. That’s just not enough. Twelve preseason games is too many. That’s why we could end up with another situation like we had last year, where three teams tied for first with 6-4 marks and it took a 5-5 record to make the playoffs. I just don’t think 10 games and playing each other twice really brings the cream of this league to the top. There’s too much chance for a very good team to simply have a bad week, and that it will cost it a spot in the postseason.
I’d like to see Region 4, especially since it has only six teams, to have a 15-game league schedule. I like how the teams play each other back-to-back so one team can’t save its best pitchers for certain opponents, but this league would be so much better if there was a third rubber game in each series. I think that would be a much better way of really determining which four teams are the very best of this very tough region.
