Which school has the biggest beef with realignment?
As high school sports fans have surely seen by now, the second draft of the alignment for the school years 2009-13 was released by the Utah High School Activities Association’s board of trustees yesterday.
Obviously, not everyone is happy with the second draft, nor will they be with the final result. I’m wondering what fans think of the second draft. Which schools have the most legitimate gripes about how things stand now?
Is it Cyprus, Granger and West? The three schools are lumped together because they were placed in 5A in the first draft, argued why they should stay in 4A at the realignment hearings, and then were kept in 5A in the second draft.
How about Uintah? Yes, the school has the enrollment numbers to be in 4A, but travel is going to be an unbelievable task for the Utes. So will be being competitive in the larger classification.
What about Manti, Richfield and Juab? Again, these schools have the numbers to be in 3A. It just seems weird that these schools could match-up with Judge and Park City in the state playoffs. Richfield, for now, seems horribly misplaced in its region.
Would you say it is Murray, Cottonwood and Hillcrest? The three schools were in 4A in the first draft, but when the board of trustees adjusted the enrollment cutoff for 4A and 5A, the three schools were bumped up to 5A.
My regular readers (that means you, mom) won’t be surprised by which school I believe has the biggest beef with the second draft, and that’s Ogden. The Tigers aren’t ready for 4A. When it came time to discuss Ogden’s bid to stay in 3A on Thursday, I was incredibly disappointed with how clueless one of the board members was about the issues that schools like Ogden and Granger deal with.
Now, I’d like to know which school or schools readers believe were put into the worst situation.
