Not the best week to be a ranked boys soccer team

So far, the first week of April has felt like a replay of 2007, as a number of ranked teams have been kicked to the curb by unranked squads.
On Tuesday, No. 2 Pine View of Class 4A, previously unbeaten, suffered its first loss of 2008 at the hands of St. George neighbor Snow Canyon. The defeat snapped an impressive 21-game unbeaten run by the Panthers, dating back to last spring.
That same afternoon, No. 4 Richfield of Class 2A, which had been beating people up in Region 13, dropped its first sanctioned boys soccer game in school history. Manti beat the Wildcats, 4-3.
Then came Wednesday, which saw Rowland Hall surprisingly upended by ALA, 3-2. Unlike Snow Canyon or Manti, American Leadership has been ranked for several weeks. However, considering the fact that many, including myself, have felt that St. Joseph and Rowland Hall are head-and-shoulders above everybody else in 2A, the result was nonetheless pretty surprising.
With two days to go this week, will we see more upsets and unpredictability, or will normalcy return?
Stay tuned.
