More on the all-state process

Some clarifications for one of our very knowledgeable readers:

1) Yes, coaches are allowed to vote for their own players.

2) The all-region teams are chosen by (voted on, I presume) the coaches in the individual regions. We simply publish them when they are sent to us.

3) I have never seen the total vote counts published. I don’t anticipate that ever happening, but I guarantee they would stir up some discussion.

4) We do have a say in all-state because they are ‘our’ teams. But we do usually base the teams entirely on the coaches’ voting. When I worked for the company you mentioned, I would usually reserve a spot or two for ‘common sense’ picks, guys who I thought were deserving of the honor but didn’t have enough votes. I didn’t always use my common sense spots, but there were times when they were necessary. I believe that’s happened occasionally here.

Thanks for reading.
