5A Girls Basketball Tournament
Bingham and Taylorsville square off in the 5A tournament’s first game of the day. It features the unranked Warriors, who earlier in the year defeated several of the 5A teams in the top 20, including Timpanogos and Skyline.
Bingham, on the other hand, started out ranked No. 1 and has never been lower than No. 4 in the top 20 with just two losses this season – both to region rival Riverton.
The team’s couldn’t be more different as Taylorsville relies on six or seven players, while Bingham uses about 15 on a regular basis. Both coaches are sure to have special strategies for each other.
Both schools have great crowds for such an early game. There are hundreds of students and parents and the stands are nearly full.
It’s a great game to get the state tournament started as it highlights the unique nature of prep sports. Neighborhood friends competing against each other and the crowds are working almost as hard as the players.
It’s a fantastic atmosphere that should continue throughout the week as there is no clear-cut favorite in this tournament.
