A change of venue?

I’m taking some time off this week for my annual winter-time golf trip in a warmer climate. But on my way south last weekend I made a stop to cover the Hurricane at Canyon View girls game on Thursday, and the Cedar at Snow Canyon boys game on Friday.
First, let me commend the fans from all schools. I was impressed by how many fans from Hurricane and Cedar made the trips to see their teams play. I was impressed with how well behaved the fans were at both games. I was impressed with the quality of play and the quality of the facilities at each school. I was really impressed with the size of the crowds.
On that later topic, I’ve learned that whenever the boys basketball teams from Snow Canyon, Dixie and Pine View play each other this season that the games will be held at Burns Arena at Dixie State College to accommodate the anticipated large crowds. The folks down south here don’t want fans turned away, and want the games played at a venue where the crowds are more manageable.
So that makes me wonder. Is this a good idea?
I know many feel that last Friday’s Lone Peak at Pleasant Grove game should have been moved to UVSC, where no fans would have been turned away. I know Pleasant Grove coach Randy McAllister opposes that because he loves that small-gym atmosphere that the Vikings enjoy and doesn’t want to give that up. Others, however, don’t think it’s right to be turned away from an overpacked high school game.
The situation in St. George differs some because you’re really looking at three schools in one community. All six games are now just a combination home-game, neutral-game for each school.
I don’t think that Lone Peak and Pleasant Grove should play one game at UVSC and then allow Lone Peak to have a home game. Therefore, if the Pleasant Grove home game is moved, the second meeting should also be moved.
I’d love to hear reader comments on this issue. Should the two Pleasant Grove versus Lone Peak games be moved to a larger, neutral arena next year? Or does a school’s desire to preserve it’s home-gym atmosphere overrule the issue of trying to accommodate fans? Do really big games deserve a really big arena?

Someone, in a comment, says that Pleasant Grove coach Randy McAllister was in favor of moving the game to UVSC. I specifically asked McAllister this a few weeks back, and he told me he was against moving the game because he loved the energy and atmosphere that the crowd at Pleasant Grove’s gym adds to his team and the game, and he did not want to give that up.
Perhaps he had a change of heart, but when I talked to him he was adamant against moving the game.
